Questions about the SAS Groups General Questions: Present Level statement related to program ?Student has (actively, participated, ect) in a weekly OT self modulation group that is part of the _ program. How does our focus area change as the students increase with age?
What did the DPI Consultant say about the groups?
Specific Questions about grade level
Elementary
Middle
High
*We are making service delivery decisions based on diagnosis not on need
*I have heard Betty talk about how once a student with HFA/Asperger’s has been taught something, going over the material redundantly instigates behavior issues/acting out – most students have been taught this curriculum repeatedly by high school
Propose presenting curriculum (abbreviated/age appropriate format) within first 9 weeks of school with emphasis on use of age appropriate physical activity as a tool and support intermittently throughout the year as need arises based on student/teacher input
*Documented that influence of sensory processing difficulties lessens with age- so curriculum not meaningful to many students in high school
*Academic support/social support larger focus in high school with NEED FOR INSTRUCTION regarding sensory awareness no longer necessitating weekly intervention for the entire year
Other
Sensory Profile standardized on students aged 3-10 years- should not use with older students
Liability Issues- If we are teaching skills and something happens to a student but we are not providing direct services (OT not on IEP in service delivery)- would we still be covered under our private liability insurance?
